Creative choice
I am wrestling with creative choice today. The dilemma of knowing that every time you choose to spend time on one pursuit or direction, it is less time for the other. I've been exploring a more abstract direction for some of my work, because I've been feeling frustrated with my approach to landscapes, but I can't help wondering if its just a big waste of time. Creating an abstract feels slower, and less involved, because the approach is also more abstract, as opposed to analytical. If I paint a landscape, I concentrate on the forms of the trees, the light and shade, the resemblance to the forms that drew me to the scene in the first place, whereas abstracts, at least for me, are more of a guided randomness. Plus, I'm having to let each layer of colour dry, so it feels very disrupted instead of involved.
